What is file sharing litigation?

Several websites permit file sharing between people from their computers, laptops, and mobile devices. The Motion Picture Industry and most recently the pornography and adult film industry began installing programs to capture the IP addresses and other identifying information on those individuals who illegally download and "share" their movies without paying for them. Once they get your IP address, individual and mass lawsuits have been filed against the named individuals or John Does. In the John Doe cases, the movie and porn companies ask a Court to allow discovery of your name from your internet provider or other sources. You may then be sued for copyright infringement.
