How long do I have to file a Florida, New York or DC personal injury claim?

Generally, in Florida, you have up to four years to file a lawsuit for a personal injury claim. There are other limitations which could shorten this time, like if the at-fault part is a government entity, a cruise ship or if the claim involves nursing home abuse or medical malpractice.

In New York, you generally have three years to file a lawsuit for your personal injury claim, but again this may be shorter for medical malpractice, government claims, and nursing home cases.

In Washington DC, a personal injury lawsuit may be barred if not brought within three years, but there are also time limitations.
